Always use stop cuts before removing material from the carving.

Keep cut on side of the nose straight up and down ( don´t slant knife to left or right ) , othewise the finished nose will look goofy.

I always go back over the entire carving and make shallow stop cuts into all the creases. This allows the oil to seep in deeper which produces more contrast in the finished carving.

Kleine Stopcuts in alle Falten ermöglicht, dass das öl tiefer einziehen kann, und bringt mehr kontrast im fertigen Figure.

6 mm hole ( not too deep ).

6 mm Loch ( nicht zu tief ).

Insert magnet into the hole, pull knife across like spreading butter on bread. This wil position the magnet perfectly flush with the surface of the wood.

Magnet ins Loch stecken, Messer herunterziehen wie Butter auf´s Brot schmieren. Der Magnet ist jetzt genau eben mit der Oberfläche vom Holz.

Wipe of excess glue with damp tissue.

Überschüssiger Kleber mit feuchtem Tuch abwischen.

I use neodymium magnets 6mm in diameter and 2mm thick with N-value of 50.

Ich benutze Neodym Magneten Durchmesser 6 mm  X 2 mm dick, N-wert 50.

Let walnut oil soak in a few minutes, wipe off the excess and let dry for a day or so.

Lass das Walnussöl ein Paar Minuten einwirken. Überschuß wegwischen, dann ein oder zwei Tage trocknen lassen.
