Hi, hier ein Tutorial über einen Schneemann mit Jacke. Die Hauptidee habe ich von Doug Linker, hab dann meine eigene Version daraus gemacht. Vile Spaß, Dave.

I normally use calipers to lightly mark where the lines go, but a ruler and  or straight edge will also do.

Ich nutze einen Schieblehrer ( Meßschieber ) um die Formlinien zu markieren, aber ein Lineal tut´s auch.

I use a bandsaw for this step. If you don´t have a bandsaw, your carving knife will do as well, just takes a little longer.

Für diesen Schritt nutze ich eine Bandsäge. Ein Schnitzmesser tut´s auch, dauert aber ein bißchen länger.

Always use stop cuts before removing material.

Immer Stopcuts nutzen vorm Abschneiden des Materials.

In the next step I´ll not only be removing pencil marks but also the point in the middle of the figure, which is the reference piont for for redrawing the marks that have been removed. So I use pins to mark the critical points, so that I can reconstruct the face.

Im nächsten Schritt werden nich nur Bleistiftmarkierungen weggeschnitten, sondern auch der Spitz der Figurs, also der Referenzpunkt für die Wiederherstellung der Markierungen. Stecknadeln verhindern, dass die kritische Punkte nich verloren gehen.

At this point I decided to make all the stop cuts.

Hier habe ich alle Stopcuts gemacht.

Making the eye shelf.

Die Augenablage schneiden.

After cutting the eye shelf I decided to lower the position of the pupils about 3 millimeters ( live and learn ).

Nach dem Schneiden der Ablage, habe ich mich entschieden, die Pupilen circa 3 mm tiefer zu setzen.

Stop cuts and V-cuts around the eyes.

V-cuts for the mouth.

Rounding the face down into the collar.

Das Gesicht richtung Kragen abrunden.

Rounding the chest up to the neck.

Construct the collar.

Kragen schnitzen.

Mark the buttons and button holes using the pin trick.

Knöpfe und Knopflöcher mit Stecknadeltrick markieren.

Deepen the jacket.

Die Jacke Tiefe verleihen.

Use V-cuts to form the arms.

V-Schnitte, um die Arme zu gestalten.

Using a small Phillips screwdriver to make an indention to help keep the drill from wandering.

Ich habe einen Kreuzschlitzschraubenzieher benutzt, um eine Mulde reinzudrucken. Dies verhindert, dass der Bohrer wandert.

Make a pilot hole (here 3.5 mm) before drilling the final diameter (5.5 mm). Be very careful !   It´s very easy to get breakage at this step.  Depth  war    8 mm.

Ich habe mit einem 3,5 mm Bohrer vorgebohrt, dann mit 5,5 mm  auf eine Tiefe von 8 mm. Vorsicht ! Bruchgefahr !

5 mm dowel marked at approx. 10 mm longer than depth of hole.

5 mm Dübel bei ca. 10 mm länger als Lochtiefe markiert.

Stop cut.

3.5 mm Diam. hole approx 8 mm deep. 3 mm dowel marked at about 2 mm longer than hole.

3,5 mm Loch, Durchm. ca. 8 mm tief.  3 mm Rundstab ca. 2 mm länger als Bohrloch.

Glue wwith Woodglue, wipe off excess, let dry.

Mit Holzleim kleben, Überschuß wegwischen, trocknen lassen.

6 mm hole 3 - 4 mm deep.

6 mm Loch, 3 - 4 mm tief.

Magnet is 6 mm Diam. 2 mm thick neodymium.

Magnet ist 6 mm Durchm.  2 mm dick Neodym.

Insert magnet into the hole, pull knife across like spreading butter on bread. This wil position the magnet perfectly flush with the surface of the wood.

Magnet ins Loch stecken, Messer herunterziehen wie Butter auf´s Brot schmieren. Der Magnet ist jetzt genau eben mit der Oberfläche vom Holz.

Wipe off excess glue with damp cloth.

Überschüssiger Leim mit feuchtem Tuch wegwischen.

Cover with generous amount of oil ( I use walnut oil ), let soak in a minute or two , wipe off excess, let dry for a day or two.

Großzügig mit Öl ( ich nutze Walnussöl ) einpinseln, lass 1-2 Minuten einziehen, Überschuß wegwischen, lass ein bis zwei Tage trocknen.
