I always go back over the entire carving and make shallow stop cuts into all the creases. This allows the oil to seep in deeper which produces more contrast in the finished carving.
Kleine Stopcuts in alle Falten ermöglicht, dass das öl tiefer einziehen kann, und bringt mehr kontrast im fertigen Figure.
The balls have a 3 mm hole, and I just happen to have a three mm scriber which helps me to exactly position the drill point.
Die Kugeln haben 3 mm Löcher, so eine 3 mm Anreißnadel ist perfect, um die Borhlöcherpositionen zu bestimmen.
Drill 3 mm holes ( careful ).
3 mm Löcher bohren ( vorsicht ).
Shallow hole for a 6 mm diameter, 2 mm thick magnet.
Loch für 6 mm Durchmesser, 2 mm dick Magnet.
A 3 mm dowel fits the holes in the balls perfectly.
3 mm Holzstifte passen genau in den Kugeln.
Make sure the magnet is flush wit the wood surface.
Magnet soll eben mit der Holzoberfläche sein.
Now sand the hat ball flush with the back.
Nun der Hutkugel eben mit der Rückseite des Figurs schleifen.
Cover with generous amount of oil ( I use walnut oil ), let soak in a minute or two , wipe off excess, let dry for a day or two.
Großzügig mit Öl ( ich nutze Walnussöl ) einpinseln, lass 1-2 Minuten einziehen, Überschuß wegwischen, lass ein bis zwei Tage trocknen.
And the little Gnome can stand on it´s own.....
